The spotless solitary
In 1976 a law forbade the planting of the vine variety to make room for other more productive grapes. However, following a strong local protest, particularly in the Prepotto area, production has started again in 1978. Since the end of the 1800s we have clear indications about the Schioppetto. This vine variety contributed to the rebirth of Friuli production after the phylloxera disaster in Europe. The Schioppettino is also known as Pokalza, the Slavic name, for the existence of the vine variety and wine even in areas bordering Italy. The Italian name seems to derive from the sensation of "bursting" in eating the berries due to the significant thickness of the skin or for the same effect on the palate. Wine banner of Prepotto. Mario Soldati in his "Wine in Wine" called it a solitary spotless: one of those human virtues that Alfieri considered the greatest.
